Vrksasana
Vrksa: Tree, Asana: Pose
A wonderfully simple balance with accessible stages. Great to practice with the support of a wall near by. Great to find your balance at the earlier stages, rather than be super wobbly in a later stage. If it helps, imagine that from the tailbone down are your roots supported by the surrounding earth and above that, your trunk and branches, free to grow tall. The idea is that you feel securely rooted, mentally and physically so that you are free to grow and feel light with the upper body and mind. Keep the hips level, taking out the sinking into one hip feeling. Keep the standing leg a touch bent, so it can react if necessary. Observe how quiet the standing foot can be, are the toes relaxed? Fixing the gaze may hep with balance. If you want to challenge your balance even more, you could close the eyes at earlier stages, or take to gaze up.
